At Greene King, we are committed to building a sustainable business and to reducing our environmental impact wherever we can, with a particular focus on reducing energy and water consumption, CO2 emissions and waste.
Our ‘Turn it Off’ and ‘Go Green’ campaigns communicate this ethos throughout the business, promoted by energy champions and ambassadors. Examples of initiatives include:
- Installation of voltage optimisers, LED lighting, above ground cellar cooling systems and better boiler controls
- On-site waste management to ensure over 80% of waste does not go to landfill
- Installation of water meters in our retail estate to improve water efficiency
- Recycling of cooking oil into bio-diesel
Greene King was the first brewer and pub restaurant operator in the UK to achieve Carbon Trust Standard.
We take a proactive approach to sustainability in our new and exising buildings and in 2014/15 reduced our carbon emissions by 0.28 tonnes per £100k turnover.
We were the first brewer in the UK to be awarded the prestigious Red Tractor food certification for all our beers.
The Red Tractor is a food assurance scheme which covers production standards on safety, hygiene, animal welfare and the environment.
We continue to work hard to reduce waste across the business.
We are signed-up to the voluntary Food and Service Hospitality Agreement and work with WRAP to reduce food waste, optimise packaging and increase recycling rates.
