At the heart of the community
Our pubs and inns are at the heart of each community they serve and we are committed to playing an active and positive role in supporting local people. This includes creating career opportunities for local people through apprenticeship schemes and creating a hub where local community groups can meet.
We also support Pub is the Hub, an organisation that has worked to open 100 post offices, 125 shops, 30 computer training centres, provision for allotments, play areas, libraries, school meals, local cinemas, and in the region of 30 pubs being run by their own local community.
Many of our employees, licensees and customers across the UK get involved in raising money for local causes through a varied range of activities such as sports events, quizzes, raffles, auctions, and karaoke.
We also work in partnership with national charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, and with Focus 12, an independent charity based near our head office in Bury St Edmunds, that provides treatment for clients with drug and alcohol dependence.
Recent fund raising events include:
Raising £1.6m for Macmillan Cancer Support in a three year partnership.
Highlights include over 160 employees coming together to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and support for the Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning.
Greene King continues to support the work of local charity Focus 12 and we have now raised more than £80,000.
Highlights include raising £25,000 through the Greene King Charity Ball and online auction.
More than 1,000 of our staff got behind the Alzheimer’s Society’s latest initiative by signing up to become Dementia Friends in March 2015
